Dallas Mavericks donate $10,000 to NEW DAY

The Dallas Mavericks, through the efforts of star player Kristaps Porzingis, sponsor Whataburger, and the Mavericks Foundation, have donated $10,000 to NEW DAY.  The donation was part of Porzingis’s "Kris-Stops" campaign to fight against child hunger.  Board President Martha Kinard, Saahil Pasha, AISD school counselor Magda Fleming, and Jeb Loveless attended the Mavs' celebration and received the donation on behalf of NEW DAY. Four other nonprofit organizations received donations and attended the event, which was catered by Whataburger. This grant will enable NEW DAY to provide AISD students with 2,222 weekend food bags.  Our thanks to Kristaps Porzingis, Whataburger, and the Dallas Mavericks!

We have good news!
The Ken W. Davis Foundation just awarded NEW DAY $5,000!

NEW DAY recently applied for a grant from the Ken W. Davis Foundation. This week Martha Kinard, NEW DAY Board President, announced that a $5,000 grant came through on April 18, “It is wonderful to see that other organizations recognize the great work NEW DAY is doing. Thank you to Cullen Davis, President of the Ken W. Davis Foundation.”

COVID 19 has added to the need to provide weekend food bags as students are at their schools or at home, and parents or guardians have become unemployed or underemployed and food needs have become even more of a challenge. The combined numbers of homeless, at-risk children and the number of area Arlington schools served, has resulted in a dynamic and shifting need that NEW DAY responds to on a weekly basis.

The availability of having weekend food and supplies is invaluable for these youth.  This is especially crucial because there is no emergency drop-in shelter for teens in Arlington; youths without a place to stay over the weekend may be subjected to serious food insecurity because they must move from place to place.

The Ken Davis Foundation grant to the NEW DAY Weekend Food Program will pay for over 1,200 weekend food bags towards our efforts to enhance student abilities to learn.
